plate Brooklyn Citadel Brooklyn New York plate. 9.25" diameter. Following the coming to America of Commissioner George Scott Railton and his Salvation Army lassies, Brooklyn work was opened, April 29, 1882, at 221 Washington Street. Part of the building was used as the first Headquarters for the United States and Canada. Brooklyn #1 has many "firsts" in Army history in America. First Corps to gain the right to hold open air services in the States. First soldier to become an officer was from Brooklyn #1. First Army convert in America, Ash Barrel Jimmy, was a soldier here. 1927 Ensign and Mrs. Ralph Miller (now Colonel) arrived as Commanding Officers, their first task, secure new premises for meeting place. January 27, 1928, foundation stone laid at 321 Ashland Place. June 3, 1928 the present building was dedicated. to God and the Army by the late Commissioner Holz. Since July 1952 Major and Mrs. Noble have been the Corps Officers of Brooklyn Citadel Corps (formerly Brooklyn #1). |
